Market Research

Having conducted research into the most downloaded songs of 2010, it is easy to see which songs, their artists and which genres are most popular. It would seem that the dance and pop genres are particularly popular. However, I would not take this as a reason to change the genre of the music we want to do. This is because having conducted the research, I found that in 2010, Coldplay's Every teardrop is a waterfall was listed as being 39th. I was in particular looking for music such as Coldplay's as I would deem these a band most similar to what The Almost Fallen Will be like. Having downloaded the album myself, I also looked for Mumford and Sons album; again because they are a band that fits the same genre of music as The Almost Fallen. Having conducted this research I found that Sigh No More, Mumford and Sons latest album came in at a reassuring sixth place in the most downloaded albums of 2010. To me this suggests that there is plenty of scope for The Almost Fallen to be received well.

However, without the use of the internet, the amount of people listening to alternative music has not only increased but is still increasing. Music like the Maccabees and Bombay Bicycle Club have became increasingly popular. The Alternative genre has became increasingly popular, not only in music terms. It is increasingly obvious that the Alternative genre is becoming increasingly popular just from the clothes people are wearing.

I would say that we are still set to use the Alternative genre as because of
the contrast between more Commercial music and Alternative music; it appeals to a very different audience and is therefore still in a position to be well received.
