I think the image on the cover of this cd is really striking, also quite interesting how the people are not the main feature on the cover, the positioning of the image suggest more that the flags are more the main theme of the cover. The image is quite interesting because the image colours red, white and blue makes up the French flag, I think this links in with the French revolution because the name of the album is only revolutions.
The cover tends to suggest binary opposites as well, a man and a woman, also two very different colours blue and red, this suggests conflict, it should clash but it works really well.
The layout of the image is quite interesting because the people though in the middle are not in the centre of the cover; this makes the cover look quite unbalanced.
The other interesting thing is that the page isn’t balanced because in the left hand corner you have a burning table but nothing to balance it out on the other side, I think what I can take form this is less is more, I think without the table this album cover would still be great, I really like the amount of light that they have managed to get in the picture, the white grey sky really brings out the rest of the image.
The colour scheme is fairly standard on this album cover, just the red, blue and the grey white of the background, but this cover includes the green of the grass to, this colour complements the blue and gives nice contrast to the red.
The shot used here is long shot because you can see all the parts of the picture, for instance the both flags are entirely in the shots well as both of the people are in the shot.
The shot fills the album cover nicely, only leaving some small blank spaces at the top of the page.
The way this album was constructed was I think probably manipulated by Photoshop, as the flags would be a lot easier to put in after, as if they were attached to the peoples neck it could present quite a chocking hazard if a strong wind picked up, and I think that the definition of the flag has been turned up, the sharpness of the flags is a lot crisper than anything else in the picture.
I like the font used on the cover, as it is quite simple, the colour of it contrasts with the background so really stands out well. The plain font allows you to read the writing clearly without any trouble; also having it a binary opposite colour to the background allows the image to stick in your head so you will remember the band for longer.
On the whole this album cover is very simple but very effective, I really like the idea of using real elements and then mixing on some elements created on Photoshop afterwards to make the cover look a bit more interesting.
