The use of image on this New Found Glory advertisement in NME is one which advertises by showing the band directly to readers whilst also including an image of there latest album. The image has been taken so that it would appear the band are looking at the camera with hard faces on, suggesting the type of music that the band play and the genre they follow. The lead singer is also gesturing with his hands, as in guiding the readers to buy the new album. On my advertisement, I would perhaps not have the band gesturing but I would have them pulling faces or posing in a manner that would fit the genre of music that they play.
Within the advertisement they have position their latest album's album cover. This is effective advertising as this part of the image is in colour and therefore directly contrasts the black and white image which is behind it. For my advertisement this is an idea that I have been toying with. I like the idea of direct contrast and I feel that black and white would suit the genre of music The Almost Fallen are within. The layout of the advertisement is also effective. Starting with the tope they have had the image fade inwards so that their name is clear and crisp against an all white background. This adds clarity to the advertisement and ensures that readers who have perhaps not heard of New Found Glory until reading the magazine know who they are. The images of the band together is placed directly below this, linking perfectly with the title so that there can be no mistake. Following this, text is placed below the latest album with details on how expensive it is and where to buy it.
For my advertisement I will ensure that the name of the band is obvious on the advert and that the picture is directly linkable to the genre of music. However, unlike this New Found Glory advert I do not like the idea of having text or even the latest album cover on the magazine. I like the idea of the album being advertised via the band more than anything else. This is very much like advertising used for The Killers and Muse.
The colour scheme of this advert is almost non existent. The majority of it is in black and white which is fitting considering the genre of music that the band are part of. Colour is used on the album cover picture which is effective at having it stand out against the black and white background. Other than this the parts of the advertisements relating to the band are solely in black or white.
I like the idea of black and white, however I don't like the idea of it making up the majority of the advert; I feel colour on writing is perhaps necessary and this will be something I will try to include.
A graphical element I have not mentioned yet is the hmv label in the darkest part of the corner. The label is bright pink and therefore stands out against the dark effectively. I am not sure on whether my magazine will use this feature or not yet, therefore I will come to a decision at a later date. However I do know it will have to stand out.
Overall I think the magazine advert is effective, however only to its specific genre and target audience. I myself am not targeted by it or interested and therefore I know to avoid copying it.
