Website Analysis 2 Kasabian

Really like the images used on the main page of the Kasabian website, the simple images used are simple yet effective, for example the image of their new album ‘Velociraptor!’ features an interesting image of the lead singer that has been changed so the colours on his face are just matte white and black, with red on his tongue, this simple effect has been repeated 3 times around the album cover, this makes for a very visually interesting picture.
The other used on the main page of the website is a Norse like design, at first I found it out of place on the website, but if you look at it carefully you see that it features the same kind of design that has been used for the album cover of the new album, four figures following each other.
The layout on the main page is similar to the Foo Fighters website that I analysed, it also has the links to the other as a strip across the top of the page, though what breaks up the block format of the layout is a black feather that has been placed at the homepage hyperlink, I think that this has been placed here to fit in with the Kasbian advert on TV which features the main singer turning into a raven like creature, so the feather fits in as a link to the new album, this design is also seen at the bottom of the page when you scroll down.

The colour scheme used on this website is the standard 3 main colours, black, white and red, this is a colour scheme that is used quite often by bands, this is because they colour scheme as well as being simple and non clashing it  also complements the other colours. The colour scheme really comes into play when you start to read the text as the background on the website is white the main headings are bright red, this makes them stand out, and allows them to be easily read.

The types of shots used on the website all seem to be mid shots, the mid shot allows the viewer to see most of the person and also some of the background, and this shot is fairly standard when it comes to band pictures as this kind of shot allows the whole band to fit in. Sometimes these shots only feature one or two f the members of the band, this is generally done with band pictures as well, its usually the front man or lead guitarist that gets the most screen time in videos and also tend to be the main feature in photo shoot, this is because fans seem to focus on these two roles on the band because they are deemed the most desirable, this is why they get more coverage in the media because products sell better with a recognisable person on the front.
The font used on the Kasabian website seems mostly to be courier new, this font gives the appearance of a old typewriter, this fits well with the Kasabian image because they take a lot of inspiration from the past, for example the Beatles with some of their more acoustic tracks. This retro theme also comes through with the lead guitarist’s retro style Rickenbacker electric guitar.
I think that the overall effect of the website works really well, the font contrasts with the modern look of the website; the images are well placed and break up the text nicely. The colour scheme works really well with album cover and the website, its simple but allows the complexity of the images to shine through.
