Analysis of CD covers

The focus with this image is movement and clarity. The Image is not a shadow or an outline but a crisp photograph of the artist. The image is high resolution and looks high definition which I think has been done to add movement to the album cover.
It has used numerous images layered on top of each to make it look busy and to put focus on the main artist bursting out of the cover. Again, the other images add dynamism to the album cover and it creates action, especially the explosion which seems to be creating movement. It is a busy album cover but it works because of the type of music contained inside.
From this I could take the crisp images as I think they work well to add movement and an element of action to the album cover. This would be effective considering the genre of music I have chosen to do; which has movement and power.

The Layout of the album cover is very central, with the main image being perfectly lined in the middle with the explosions coming off either side. This creates an equal and parallel effect which I think is effective in creating the idea of movement which I think they were looking for. The positioning of the writing in the top corner helps balance the images and creates the idea that the main artist is action packed but still in control as it helps him look perfectly central. The writing would seem to be coming out of the cover which helps add dynamism, which I don't think would be created if it was positioned flat.
If I wished to create movement and action on my cover; which is an option I am open to due to the genre of the music I have chosen to do, I would take inspiration from this use of writing and positioning. I would implement the positioning so that appears to come out of the screen.

The colour scheme with this album cover is interesting as there doesn't, at first glance, appear to be one as it would seem to be a photograph. However, if looked into carefully, there is an obvious theme of black, which helps create the idea of space and thus power; helping add action to the cover. There is an obvious theme of yellow due to the writing, which stands out well off the black background; making it obvious and easy to read. The final colour is a bluey/white colour which is hep in the background and isn't obvious until further inspection. This use of an unobvious colour scheme is an interesting aspect of the cover as it allows it to appear as a photograph and therefore look more action packed, which I think is the effect they are going for.
From this I would take the strong, bold and obvious colour for the writing and the name of the band however; I don't think that the unobvious colours work as I feel that my album cover would have to be bold; to convey the power of the music within.

Like many album covers; the type of shot used would seem to be a mid shot; this works well on this album cover as the artist is a solo artist and therefore he needs to advertise his image. This is why he is positioned so centrally on the front cover.
However, this doesn't apply to my band because they are a band. The image be centralised but it won't be of one person.

The clothes the artist is wearing is important in this advertising process as he must attract his target audience. Who, would dress similarly to the artist and thus be attracted to the cover. My band, if featured on the front cover will be dressed in the correct clothes; which will be used to attract the target audience.

The type of font used has been selected carefully to fit the album cover perfectly. It adds dynamism and movement to an already fast paced cover.
The font on my album cover will have to convey power and pace. I don't think the font used on this would be fitting for my album cover as it looks more hip hop and I don't think it suits my genre of music.

Overall, I would say the design is effective as it targets his target audience perfectly and all things on it are directed at this; this is something I must utilise on my own album cover.
