Cd cover/ Digipack Analysis

Use of image
I really like the image used in this album cover, the image on this album cover is what is known as a Rorschach test, basically a ink blot test that is used to analyse peoples psychological state.
I really like the way that they have used the ink blot test because it makes the album cover stand out, and also because Rorschach  tests are made to be interpreted as different images, so I like how you could keep coming back and looking at the image and finding different images it it every time.
Layout
The image layout on the front cover stretches to fill the entire screen, this is a common feature for album covers, usually the image stretches to fill the entire space available I thin this is to present as much as they can in quite a small space.
Usually with an album cover you have limited space to work with, using the entire cover to fit your image onto and then combining very brought colours makes it stand out and therefore be noticed by a potential buyer.
Colour scheme
The colours used in this album cover range from black to a mustard yellow, most of the colours fit in and work together like the black and red, used in many places in the media, for example the Freddy Kruger jumper. The Album cover features many colours that clash as well, I think they have done this to make the image stand out from others, the bright colours stand out on any coloured background because of the many colours used in it.
Types of  shots used
The shot used on the cd cover is a close up, its a closeup because you can see towards the edges of the album cover that the pattern is cut off. Having a close up ensures that the entire album cover is filled up utilising all the space.
The shot used makes you focus on the middle of the cover, this is where the writing is for the album is, this makes you remember the writing even though there is so much gong on around it .
Other graphical elements
This album looks like it could have been produced in two ways, firstly it could have been created by putting ink on one side of a piece of folded paper, then folded the paper onto the wet ink and reproducing a duplicated version on the adjacent piece of paper. Or there could have been one ink blot on one side of the paper, and then on Photoshop or a different photo manipulation software mirror the image and changes the colours.

Typography
The font used here to display the band and album name is fairly simple, this is because the background is so complex that if the font was complex as well it would ruin the album cover. Also having the font in a larger size than the album cover name is a good way of promoting the bad before the album, because you want people to remember the band name before the remember the album name.

Overall effectiveness of the design
I think the design works really well, the contrast between the complex background style and the simple front makes for a very aesthetically pleasing visual effect, the colours and design of the background are really artistic.
