Analysis of CD covers

The use of image on this album cover is effective but strange. The image says a lot about the band and is relevant to the music they make; however it is not in a directly obvious way. The Killers are an American band and I would say that this album cover is a particular American scene. However not one that would be usually seen together. The Woman is typical of US, as the famous "Miss state" competition takes place and the trailer and goat go some way to represent "trailer trash" unfortunately, another thing the US is famous for. The fact that they are not often seen together and that they have been merged together for this one event describes The Killers music; and how it is unusual, different and goes some way to bring different types of music together.
This unusual picture could be something that I replicate indirectly. I could use something random that is indirectly linked to they type of music that the band is based on.

The layout however is conventional. The white caravan behind acts as a flat background and the sheep and the woman frame it perfectly. Positioning has been used to create an even impression on the photograph and creates something which is nice to look at.
I feel that whatever the image I eventually use will be, I should make sure that the album cover looks even via the positioning and the layout of the images.

The colour scheme, of which you would conventional see a convention of three, is non existent. The use of grayscale and black and white is effective as it is relevant to the pictures and the image that have tried to create. The black and white works in a nostalgic way that is good at reflecting a vision of the US.
I would consider using black and white on my own album cover, however only if the images I had were relevant and would be able to be used in a way suitable.

The type of shot used is a long shot which has been used to capture both the Sheep and the Woman in the same shot. I would usually expect to see a mid shot but because there is more than one character on the front a long shot has been used.
On my album cover; as I am using a band not a single artist I would most likely use a long shot to capture all the members.

The use of fonts would seem to be important to The Killers as "The Killers" font is always written in the same way across all of their albums. This would seem to be an effective to create awareness of the band and thus their music. The writing below this is fancy; but seems to be fitting with the look created by the images and black and white.
I am only going to have one final album cover so the font replication would seem irrelevant however across all of the mock ups I will use the same font unless I find a more appropriate one.

Design I would say is effective as it replicates the style of the music on the album. This would seem to be something I should try to use and replicate.
