Mock up CD covers

I took a different approach whilst creating this album cover and it is one that I feel really works well. I decided upon having an album cover which places the band in a situation which is both strange but also fitting to the genre and type of music being produced.

Whilst this image was already an existing band poster; again The Killers are the stars within it, I took it and modified it in a way that I feel is artistic, interesting and on the whole works. Again I have copied this idea of silhouettes, something I have become very keen on and something simplistic in nature and in photoshop.
Having selected parts of the image to colour white I feel that it works well, helping to create a black and white feel. The image of a boxing ring is one that I like as it fits our chosen genre well, with connotations of power and strength. Meanwhile it also fits the album name, something I am keen to have relevance and not to be just a random title.

The colour again was something that I deliberated over for a longtime and the end I created a number of copies; each with differing font colours. I like this one the most as the red is brash and powerful but also in my opinion suits the black and white other colours well and does not appear garish. Again, this was the same red taken from the Kooks album Inside Inside out and I feel it works well and will be a colour I keep in consideration for my final product.
I kept the bands name in black and white because I felt it was fitting considering the band members will be in black and white. I feel it is important to establish a theme on the album cover and this is one way to doe it. Plus I feel the font I have used looks best without colour and that it black and white it suggests post apocalyptic scenes. I feel it is not dissimilar to the font for 28 days later and suck like.

I think one of the most productive parts of this cover is the symmetry created by the way the album's name has been positioned in a pyramid way. Whilst it could do with being touched up in photoshop I think it works well and the space between the legs of the boxer holds it perfectly.

Overall, this is my favourite of the album covers I have created and I will try use as many aspects of it as possible in my final product. The main problem I feel I will have is re creating the image settings. I would have to create a boxing ring corner and this is something that would take time and consideration.
I made a number of alterations of this album cover; just to get a number of perspectives.

On the right hand side I have positioned previous album cover that have used similar techniques. although I have never had previous awareness of these albums; I found it reassuring to see that successful bands have experimented in the same techniques as I have.
