Magazine Advert Mock Ups

I felt that seeing as we had been analysing magazine adverts I should create a few, purely to see how they look and whether, in the real world, they would be usable.

This was the first one I created in Photoshop and I am pleased with how it turned out. In general, the simplicity is something that I agree with and I feel it works well and would benefit from the its uncomplicated nature. The image was another google image of Brandon Flowers lead singer of The Killers. I used, like I used for my CD covers, the silhouette idea. I thought that if I put into action the silhouette cover, an advert for it should have strong links to it. I also feel that it works well in consideration of my chosen genre and that it would be effective in targeting my target audience.
I like this image and if I were to use it for my actual magazine advert it is one that would not be hard to recreate. It was a simple image in the beginning and creating a silhouette is simple on photoshop.

The colour was the red that I used previously as I felt it went well in creating an apocalyptic feel and that it works with black I have use for the second colour. The green writing was add on that I am not keen on, however I feel that it works. I consulted a colour wheel and saw that they fitted with each other and I feel that it stands out clearly and advertises well.

The font was slightly trickier to decide upon. I wanted something that complimented the colour and the genre of music, so therefore I settle on a font similar to that used for the 28 Days Later film. The font for the green writing was decided upon after looking at actually magazine adverts. Is aw that any bands used a fancy font for their name but then for the lesser details they used a normal font and just made it obvious by putting in bold or such like. I think this works well as it helps to keep the page from getting cluttered which in turn aids the simplistic nature of the advert.

In the creation of this I followed a lot of other, real magazine adverts and what struck me the most was the simplistic nature of each of them and how that none were complicated. Therefore, in the creation of this I kept this in consideration and I feel it is obvious in the final product.
I created second version which is exactly the same just with a changed image. I changed the image purely to symbolise the album name 'New Breed.'

The changed image is simple and I picked it purely for reasons that the communist hammer and sickle is often related to uprisings and revolution. Therefore I felt it had not to tenuous links to the name 'New breed.' I considered other thinks such as Che or the use of Castro, however in the end I settle on the symbol. However I am aware that it has been done before (lots) and that I don't want to be recreating an overused symbol. In general I feel it fits but I prefer the original piece of work.

Here I changed the green to to a darker shade as I received comments that the green before was to bright.

The background change here was something I stumbled across and I thought it made an interesting design. It reminded me of the Hoosiers and how they created posters and CD covers of the same image in different colours for a choice and to make it interesting. I was thinking for my digipacks I could include an idea like this.
