The Killers band website is possibly my favourite of any of the bands I have come across. The use of image is exemplar in a way image should be used to represent genre and target audience. They have used grim looking, dusty images of buses, an old T.V and the building from the album cover of Hot Fuss. By creating a panoramic effect they have made a website that allows the audience to view the albums they have made individually without changing or having to click a hyper link. To me this is an interesting website but I think would be incredibly complicated to make.
Image wise they have used images that have direct links to their albums. For example, Hot Fuss has the buildings, Sam's Town has the sheep and Day and Age has the blue mountain with the strange looking sun behind. I can see that a band website must have direct links to the band it represents and The Killers do this in an effective and interesting way.
Clicking on the individual links brings up images of Album Covers and information on where to buy whilst at the same time keeping in fitting with the futuristic design, clearly wanted by The Killers. Each link brings up something different. I feel that this is important in creating a band website which would keep an audience interested.
The Killers have used colour effectively. Using dustily colours for the background they link to the idea that are from Las Vegas, a desert city and one which has many ties in their music. They use the individual colours of the albums for their respective parts in the website. Each however revolves around darker and grimmer blues and dark colours. I can see from this that seemingly the most important part of the website is having it fit with the target audience and the genre of music chosen.
The layout is obviously fancy whilst at the same time being simple. Images on the front page are few and far between and this aids the panoramic effect as it gives the impression of open space and creativity. Something The Killers are big on. The layout makes the website easy to use which is perhaps the fundamental principle of a website. Compared to other bands they have done much for a while and therefore information wise the website is scarce. However I feel its layout is effective at presenting information in a way that is easy to read but also interesting and unique.
Other graphical elements which are include are the basic of the bands site. For example they have links for videos, images, music, tours and other things which are more unusual. Such as 'The Victims.' However each one of these links has an image which fits the band site effectively. These include retro juke boxes or retro cinema screens. The shining example is the Tours link which its represented by an old school bus. Again this shows how important specific genre is and how a band website should be consistent the whole way through.
