Analysis of Band Websites

The home page of Noah and the Whale's website is based on their latest album cover for the album Last Night on Earth. The design of the site is effective at presenting their genre and targets their target audience.

The use of image is clever as it includes four images for a four piece band. Each is designed in the same style and focuses on their instruments and the clothes they are wearing. This is again effective in keeping in fitting with their genre whilst is also adds consistency to the website, something which I feel is vital; for making it easy to understand. Apart from these the focus on the home page is put on that of the links to the next pages. Images are agin sparse and where they are present they are presented in large format and come with descriptions. For example advertising there USA and Mexico tour.

The layout of the whole remains the same and is consistent to that of the home page. Images are rarely used on the information pages and where they are they are presented in a format that is large and obvious. Something which is similar to how The Killers and The Kooks pages and images are presented. In comparison to smaller images, such as those used for the Muse website I would say that large images work effectively and are better looking than there smaller counterparts. The images fit the website well as each are designed in a way which fits the posh, retro feel of the website.
The layout of the written information is consistent across the whole website. On nearly every page the information is either above, below or down the side of the image presented on the blog. Where the website is not consistent it is made up in interesting and unique features. Such an old school tape player which played demos or links to a website where a competition is being run for a chance to win a limited edition vinyl. Overall the layout is more like that of The Killers page as it consists of uniques and interesting features, not present on the vast majority of other sites.

The fonts used are again like that of other sites. They use one for the large title and one for sub headings and then a final font is used for the actual written information. By doing this they have a created a website which is easy to navigate and profoundly obvious in the portrayal of written information.

The colour scheme, like a lot of the website is simple. There is a black and white feel which ties nicely with the bands look and there are a few images designed in colour . However the colour fits the website well and does not clash like I would say some of the images on the Muse website did.

Overall the website is good and I feel it is tied with The killers as the most effective website I've analysed. Every parts of the site is consistent with the theme and feel of the band and therefore I feel it is successful.
