The use of layout in this advert is central to how effective it is. The image of Florence is framed by the flowers running up the side. The title 'Florence' fits perfectly into the gap between her chin and her neck, whilst the writing down the side-although not strictly relevant to Florence- does help in adding the presentation and frames her part in the advert well. The release date is obvious in the top corner and it is easy to read who the artist is and what the advert is about. From seeing this and looking at adverts for The Killers the one thing I have learnt is that framing is key in the effectiveness of an advert. a top class picture must be framed in a way that makes it look professional. In my eyes this advert is a prime example.
The colour Scheme of this advert centres on Red. This is directed by the fact Florence's hair is her iconic red colour. Again something which she is famous for and therefore readers will recognise her by. The actual colour scheme is red, white and black. This is a brash colour scheme; ideal for advertising as it is obvious and easy to see. On my advert I will use a similar, brash set of three colours. However, like in this advert I will be careful to make sure the three colours fit together so that they are both brash and easy to see but also nice on the eyes and not ugly. I like the colour red and I can see it looks good in this advert and on others I have seen. For this reason I am considering using a three piece colour scheme which centres on this colour.
As I touched upon before; the type of shot used is that of a close up-mid shot. This is definitely effective for a solo artist advert as it is central to advertising there looks and therefore how readers and fans recognise them. However, like I have said previously I am much more interested in using a mid shot or long shot to keep the band in the frame and therefore advertise what we are rather than just the lead singer.
Typography is important in this advert as it is not solely a Florence and the Machine advert. It is an NME advert which includes her. However, the font used for the part which includes her is one which could be called iconic to Florence. It is 'airy' and 'wavy' similar to her persona and her music. From this I can see that typography wise, I must use a font that is relatable to the band and the genre. Therefore perhaps not such an 'airy' one but one which is more iconic to the genre I have chosen. Perhaps one which is a bit darker and more sinister.
Other graphical elements are not directly relatable to the Florence and the Machine advert but more the NME one.
Even though it was not strictly a full Florence and the Machine advertisement, I would say that it is still effective. It advertises the fact she is coming back with an album in a way that is obvious and informative.
