The use of image on this album cover is effective to the effect that The Pigeon Detectives were trying to achieve. I see that effect as being a confrontational and brash album cover. I would say that it is effective. The plain image is the brash effect, and it is one that I like. For obvious reasons, the actually image; the two stags, is the confrontational part of the album cover. I like this, I think it is different and that it relates to the lyrics used within the album which have a certain brash tone to them.
Image wise I would consider taking key elements from this and to some extent replicating them on my own album cover. I like the idea of it being simple and I think that this can be conveyed from one genre to the next and therefore Could be replicated.
The layout of this album cover adds to the simple effect that I feel was trying to be achieved. The two stags are positioned perfectly in the middle with there being no background image or anything of substance behind them, it is effective in relating to the type of lyrics and songs that the Pigeon Detectives write.
I can see from this album cover that simplicity can be key to creating an effective image and idea.
The layout of the writing is also simple but effective. It doesn't add much to the cover but at the same time it doesn't need to as they didn't seem to be looking for a complicated cover, it is positioned in a way that adds to the simple effect.
As with both the Images and the layout, the colour scheme again adds to the simplistic nature of this album cover. It also adds a brash and confrontational aspect to the album cover which is fitting with the choice of image. The colour of the image matches the colour of the words and there is a definite colour scheme of Red, White and black. I think these are colours which are effective in setting out a confrontational and simplistic nature. From this album cover I would consider taking the simplistic nature of colours; using perhaps just one or two colours on the main image.
The type of shot used for the image again creates tension and establishes confrontation. The mid shot of the stags together and the close up of each of their heads creates the tension by drawing attention on to the fact that they are fighting. I think a Mid shot is an effective shot to use for an album cover as the image is used in a small amount of space the image has to be compact and to be able to deliver impact. I think that Midshots and close ups are very effective in creating tension.
The typography on this album cover is simple. It doesn't use a complicated font as it had to be fitting with the simplistic nature of the album; therefore it is effective. I can see that everything on an album cover has to be fitting with everything else on the cover.
